It appears to have been intricately cast, gilded in gold, and once decorated with some sort of coloured paste/paint, perhaps that which was used on its evil eye stone. This style of ring – its shape and design was commonly used in those days as a popular design. The evil eye was used to ward off negative spirits and Influences.
